Introduction to NARRATIVESMon. 8/13/18 - Tues.8/14/18NOTE- TAKING: Students took notes over elements of a story, using the website NearPod and guided notes that they filled in during the lesson. Focus skills: -plot diagram (identifying parts of plot) -point of view (identifying POV types) -Setting (becoming familiar components of setting) -Character types (identifying character types in a text) WED. 8/15/18- PracticeWhat better way to practice/ review elements of a story than with a familiar children's story?! Students watched a video of story to refresh their memories or be introduced to the classic for the first time. Students watched the video with purpose, looking to identify key story elements within the tale. They needed to learn about the setting, which characters were the protagonist/ antagonist, and which events belonged where on a plot diagram. Producing work:Students received a written version of the story, and were prompted to a digital presentation that they would use to display key information about plot and specific content from the Three Little Pigs. How it looks in the classroom: -They downloaded the presentation from verge -Saved it in a google doc -Added their information - Will upload and submit it back to verge next week Homework: Students were given a story "Gertrude grew Great" with an organizer so that they could fill out key elements and events from the story. Thurs. 8/16/17Students finished the practice with the three little pigs today ***2nd period- Moved on to focusing on Point of View They watched a Brain Pop video on types of Points of Views in a narrative, took a class quiz, and did some individual practice with identify POV using excerpts from famous novels. fri. 8/16/17All class periods spent time finishing their Three Little Pigs assignment and submitted their finished work to VERGE. (7th period: many students did not save properly and did not get to finish and turn in their final presentation) Signing up for QUIZLET & Joining the Class: 2nd & 3rd period: All students should have signed up in class today 1st & 6th period: Some students in this class did not get a chance to sign up and start studying their vocab set because they were working on finishing their 3LP assignment. (Make sure after signing up, you join your class periods class) Vocab sets to study: -Seventh Grade by Gary Soto -POS Definitions -POS Examples Homework: SIGN UP FOR QUIZLET, JOIN YOUR CLASS PERIOD, STUDY THE THREE VOCAB SETS 8/6- MondayToday, students had extended homeroom, which means that 1st and 2nd period were cut short. However, all classes spent their time getting to know each other through icebreaker activities. No Homework for all periods! 8/7- TuesdayStudents were given their syllabus and a packet that included class materials, information about the class site, and instructions for signing up for Remind. I went over the syllabus and all the other information with the students and answered any questions. -1st and 2nd period were cut short again due to extended homeroom. 3rd period- was cut short due to a grade level meeting with their grade level administrator. 6th period- After going over the syllabus, students started on their syllabus scavenger hunt. If students did not complete the hunt, they were to take it home for homework. Homework: All periods should get syllabus signed and yellow slip signed. 6th period- Complete scavenger hunt if you did not do so in class 8/8- wednesday1st and 2nd period: These two classes were cut short again due to extended homeroom. I collected any signed work. Students were then given their syllabus scavenger hunt and worked in groups to complete it. If students did not finish it, they took it home to complete for homework. Homework: Finish scavenger hunt- DUE THURSDAY THE 9TH. Signed syllabus/ yellow slip- DUE TUESDAY THE 14TH 3rd period: I collected any signed work. Students were then given their syllabus scavenger hunt and worked in groups to complete it. If students did not finish it, they took it home to complete for homework. Homework: Finish scavenger hunt- DUE THURSDAY THE 9TH. Signed syllabus/ yellow slip- DUE TUESDAY THE 14TH 6th period- I collected any signed work or scavenger hunts that were not completed in class on Tuesday. Students started class with a writing task, where they chose from 4 different writing prompts. They needed to write a paragraph that was 6-8 sentences long. Students then began working on a learning styles survey that showed them if they were a visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learner. Homework: Signed syllabus/ yellow slip- DUE TUESDAY THE 14TH 8/9- Thursday1st and 2nd period: These two classes were cut short again due to extended homeroom. I collected any signed work. All Classes Today's class focused on getting to know the student's as learners. This was done through a learning styles survey and an Interest and Reading survey. If students did not finish, they had the option of taking it home to work on it, but it was NOT mandatory.
