8/28/17-1st/ 4th/ 5th periods: Opening-
Quick Write 13 (See journal page for prompt ) As class we created a list of rules/ steps to follow when determining the key elements in a story's structure. As we discussed this, students recorded the list in their journals. NO HOMEWORK! (1st, 5th, 4th) 7th period: Opening- Students wrote down "Quick Write 10" (See journal page for prompt ) Work Period- Part one: Interactive Notebook -Students were given new resources to add to their interactive notebooks -The resources focused on Point of View -Students cut and glued the notes into their interactive notebooks Part Two: Point of View BrainPOP -Once students finished in their Interactive Notebook, we watched a Brain Pop video over Point of View -Students then took a quiz over the the video (10 questions that appeared on the board, we took the quiz as a class.) Closing- Discussion over the rules for each type of POV (1st, 2nd, 3rd objective, limited, and omniscient ) NO HOMEWORK! (7th) 8/29/17 1st/4th period: Opening- Journal Check/ Quiz: -Students came into class and were told to clear their desks except for their journals and pen/ pencils. Students then received a slip of paper with five questions; these questions came straight from previous journal prompts. -Students used their notebooks to answer the questions. They then turned in their notebooks to inspected by me. I looked to see if they were up- to- date and if they were following the guidelines as far as headings and pages requirements. Work Period/ Closing- 1st period: Students had a fire drill after the Journal quiz and when we returned to class it was almost time to switch to their connection periods. 4th period: -Students were given their Friday quiz back. This quiz asked students to read a short story and determine the point of view and the elements of plot for the story. -Once they had their quizzes, we reviewed the steps they needed to take to determine the above. -Students spent the rest of the class re- reading the story, numbering paragraphs, and creating a bulleted list as the summary of the story. -I answered questions and assisted students as needed No homework 5th period: Students were taking the MAP test during this period. (No class/ No homework) 7th period: Opening- - Students reviewed what we learned about POV from Monday's lesson. -Students finished taking notes on POV (1st, 2nd, 3rd Objective, Limited, and Omniscient) Work Period/Closing- - Students received a "Narrative Perspectives" handout. This handout allowed students to apply the skill they just took notes on. Students worked in small- groups and pairs to complete the assignments. -The teachers walked around and assisted students/ checked worked Homework: Finish the narrative perspectives handout. 8/30/17 1st period : Work Period- Students were given their Friday quiz back. This quiz asked students to read a short story and determine the point of view and the elements of plot for the story. -Once they had their quizzes, we reviewed the steps they needed to take to determine the above. -Students spent the rest of the class re- reading the story, numbering paragraphs, and creating a bulleted list as the summary of the story. -Once students finished summarizing they followed the steps to determine the POV of the story -I answered questions and assisted students as needed No homework 4th period : Work Period- -Students continued their work from Monday. They had to get their work checked by me before moving on to the next section. -Once most of the class had finished summarizing, they were placed in teacher- created pairs/ groups to work together to complete the rest of the activity. -Students worked on this until the bell rang. Homework: Students received part 2 of their Narrative Perspectives handout to finish for homework and bring back Thursday, Aug. 31st. 8/31/17 1st/ 4th period: Opening 1st/4th- -Students received notes on identifying point of view to put into their interactive notebooks -We went over them as a class for review -1st period only: We went over POV again. Students were given back their POV homework to correct. - They were then given additional practice for homework Work period 1st/ 4th- -Students continued working on their work from the day before in their groups Homework 1st period : Students received part 2 of their Narrative Perspectives handout to finish for homework and bring back Friday, September 1st. During the period, she led the students in close- reading the short story "When Gertrude Grew Great." What they did step by step: -Students numbered their paragraphs -They read the story as a class - They used a highlighter to highlight the important information in the story. Opening- Quick Write 10 (see journal page for prompt) Work Period/ Closing- Students received resources for notes to add into their interactive notebooks. The notes focused on determining the point of view of a narrative Most of the class were on a list to go to a meeting in the cafeteria at 9:20 AM. This left 1st period with only 3 students actually in class. In hopes of not having the majority of class behind, the rest of class was focused on the remaining students finishing their notes or silently reading. Homework:

Students were given a character map organizer. The character that they focused on analyzing was Victor. The students filled in examples of the character's thoughts, traits, action, description, and feelings. They had to provide the page number and line that represented each example. Homework:
8/24/17 1st Period: Opening-

5th Period: Students went to homeroom during this period to take the MAP test in the subject of Reading. It lasted from 5th to what would have been 6th period. Homework:

8/25/17 All periods: Opening: Review for the vocabulary portion of the quiz:
Part one of quiz: Students were given a quiz over the vocabulary words in the plot vocabulary set on Quizlet. The quiz was taken straight from the Quizlet site. It included a combination of true and false questions, write- ins, and multiple choice. Part two of quiz: Once students turned in their quiz they were given a short story with an accompanying handout that included blank sections for the students to fill out the elements of plot for that specific short story. Closing: If students finished before the bell rang, they were given their "Seventh Grade" packet to work on. I looked over each student's packet beforehand, providing comments and circling question that students needed to go back over and correct. Homework:
