Students are mAP testing all week!To accommodate for testing we will be on a block schedule this week. This means that students will be in one class period for double the time, but will only see that teacher every other day, with the exception of our lunch period. When students are not MAP testing, class will run regularly with ELA lessons and activities. Monday/ Tuesday :Students took the READING MAP TEST during my period using our team Chromebooks. If students finished before the class period was over, they worked on one of the following assignments: -Characterization task cards -Reflection 5 part 1 and 2 Wednesday/ Thursday:Students took a CHARACTERIZATION CHECK POINT using Mac books and the Illuminate platform. This was 10 questions quiz to assess if students have a clear understanding on how to identify and analyze characters and character type in a story. If students finished before the class period was over, they worked on one of the following assignments: -Characterization task cards -Reflection 5 part 1 and 2 - Making sure all QWs are up to date in journal *Most of 2nd period go to sign up for Quizlet and play Quizlet live to review story elements vocab* Homework: Friday:2nd period- HOMEWORK- Student should be using the class website to get caught up in their journals.
They were given their journals with feedback on incomplete work or inaccurate responses. They were told to go through and read all the comments and make the necessary changes by Tuesday. Monday:Introduction to Character types and traits: Student took notes on the differences between the following character types: - round - flat - static - dynamic - protagonist - antagonist We watched the following video while filling in notes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOODHYmpJ6k We then practiced identifying character traits using movie clips. Students were given a graphic organizer and a character traits list. They used these resources to choose three traits per character while watching the following video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blygA-gGEbw Tuesday:I was out sick yesterday; our Inclusion teacher on the team, Ms. V, covered my classes and assisted students with more characterization practice. Students were given the following agenda to use to complete their quick writes and close- reading activity. Wednesday:Students finished up on their work from yesterday. (ELA Agenda 8-20-19) As a class, we read the characterization story and participated in a discussion of the story using our guided annotation steps provided in yesterday's agenda. After the discussion, students worked on the after- reading questions that explored character types and changes for the characters in the story. Homework: NONE :) Thursday/ Friday: Students continued working on characterization activities.
