Submitting to Verge: - Choose your LANGUAGE ARTS COURSE -Go to resources -Click on the UNIT 1 FOLDER -Click on "SUBMIT THEME ANSWER SHEET HERE!" -Read the instructions on the site to submit your work from your google drive :) Read the article: "Trash or Treasure?"Annotations: 1. Number the paragraphs- you should have a total of four. 2. Read paragraph 1; stop and answer the question in a complete sentence 3. Read paragraph 2; highlight the city's policy on homeless encampment removals. Highlight what the city does. 4. Answer the question under paragraph 2 5. Read paragraphs 3 and four 6. In paragraph 3, highlight the lawsuit claims 7. In paragraph 4, highlight the government's rebuttal or argument to the lawsuit. Once you are done reading, grab your journal and complete Reflection 16 in your journal. This is going to be your opinion. Whose point of view or perspective is the most valuable when thinking about encampments? Which is the most powerful?Who has the most powerful voice out of all of the people you wrote about on your chart? Whose voice holds more weight in the situation? EXPLAIN WHY! STRENGTHS AND wEAKNESSES:For this section, first go back to paragraph 2 and read over the current removal policy for D.C. Now think about about 2 strengths or positives about the system; fill this in on your chart. Next, think about two weaknesses or negatives about the policy, fill this in on your chart. 4TH AMENDMENT: Read about the 4th amendment and fill in the chart discussing how the city's policy possibly violates the 4th amendment and how it does not. Provide a 1- 2 sentence explanation for each. Narrative Writing Challenge:aSK YOURSELF:What point of view will allow you to tell the story as an outside narrator but also still know the thoughts of multiple characters? Characters:1. Choose three main characters to focus your story around. 2. highlight or circle the three focus characters 3. Give your characters names. Feelings:1. Think about how your characters will feel about the situation (Tearing down homeless encampments) 2. Provide two main emotions that your three main characters will feel throughout the story. 3. You are free to add more feelings if you would like. Ask yourself: Will they be upset? Will they be working to get them removed? Will they feel relieved? Will they be struggling with various thoughts and feelings? Static or Dynamic?Using your three main characters, you will decide if they will be dynamic or static characters and fill in the chart accordingly. Setting:Now that we have planned out our characters, we need to plan for the setting. 1. Decide on the following things: - present day, past, or future? -what's the city and state? - what is the season? 2. Next, think about sensory details that will be in your story. Sensory details are the use of descriptive language that you use to appeal to the reader's senses. Look at the example below to get ideas: Plot Events:1. Decide on the main conflict in your story. 2. Plan the main events of your story. You are NOT providing EVERY SINGLE DETAIL, just decide on the gist of each part of your story. SWBST:At the very bottom of your paper, under the resolution, write out a SOMEBODY, WANTED, BUT, SO, THEN... for your story. nOW IT'S TIME TO GET YOUR PRE- WRITING PACKET APPROVED!Show me your finished packet, so that I can give you any needed suggestions. Once I approve your pre- writing packet, begin typing your rough draft in a google document. Optional Paragraph Breakdown for your Story: Paragraph 1- Your exposition. Introduce your readers to the setting of your story, your main characters, and give them a look into the situation of the story.
Body Paragraphs- This will be a big chunk of your story. All your rising events and the most exciting part/ turning point should be in your body paragraphs Ending Paragraphs- This should include the falling action and the resolution. Things to remember to do: - Be descriptive (use details that appeal to the reader's senses) -Use dialogue (You story should include parts where your characters talk to each other) This should be in quotations -Be creative! Use your imagination but stick to the main situation throughout YOU ARE WRITING IN 3RD PERSON OMNISCIENT, SO WE SHOULD KNOW THE THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS OF TWO OR MORE CHARACTERS Stick with the same point of view all the way through. |
