Weekly Grammar Focus:The focus this week for grammar is still on parts of speech. Students will review work from last week and get more in- depth practice with adverbs and prepositions, specifically being able to identify which is which by looking for the object of the sentence. All grammar work will be done in class and we will go over the work as a class, allowing students to correct mistakes if needed. This week students are still on block SCHEDULE due to map testing. The week's focus will not be broke down into days and periods, but I will highlight below the focus skills/ activities that we are doing in relation to our first short story of the year "Seventh Grade." Pre- reading Activities:Student completed three activities that got them thinking about the main topics of the story while also personally connecting with the text. - Students completed a reflection in their journal about a current or previous crush, since the main character in the story is crushing on a girl. -Next, students made a list of things you can do to impress a person. This was done because our main character tries hard to impress Teresa, the girl he likes. -Additionally, students also wrote about and discussed a embarrassing moment they had at school to connect with the character's embarrassing moment in the story.
