For our first live class of the semester, we focused on going over virtual expectations. These are the standards we will follow when we are meeting and working together virtually. This lesson included the things we should and should not do in order to make sure that we work together to create a positive and productive learning environment. Live Class session:Opening/ Warmup: 1.Students started class by using the collaborative board on Nearpod to discuss their favorites. Students wrote about their favorite movies, books, shows, and hobbies. 2. Students took a 1 question poll to identify how they are feeling about the school year. The responses ranged from excited to over it already! Work Period: Virtual Expectations Presentation (screenshots of presentation below) After the presentation, students participated in a quiz gamification by playing "Time to Climb". This was 14 question quiz game where students earned points as they raced to the top of the mountain. This game reviewed the virtual expectations.
Closing: Independent Practice: Students are tasked with writing or recording an audio recording that summarizes the virtual expectations for potential new students. Their summaries should include the main things that students should and should not do during virtual learning to help keep the learning environment safe, pleasant, and productive.
